Final Chorale Project Guidelines

  1. Use the four phrases (in order) that we have completed to compose your chorale.
  2. Be sure you use the expected notation devices:  key signatures, time signatures, stems (in the correct direction), etc.
  3. Label the chord progression of each chord.
  4. Each of the following should be added to some phrase in the chorale. They must be labeled correctly.
    1. Suspension
    2. Retardation
    3. Escape tone
    4. Neighbor Tone
    5. Appoggiatura
    6. Anticipation
    7. Cadences (note which type occurs at the end of each 4-measure phrase.
    8. Write the chorale for four voices, four instruments (using correct keys for that instrument)
    9. Write a reduction of the chorale.
    10. Turn in the following:
      1. All four of the 1st draft phrases
      2. Final copy of the chorale for each instrument
      3. Final copy of the chorale reduction
      4. These will be performed on Monday, May 21.  It is YOUR responsibility to have the players here for this, so plan your voicing/instrumentation accordingly.
      5. This will serve as 50% of your final exam grade.  If you are taking the AP test, you are exempt automatically from the final.  If you are not, the other 50% will be comprehensive (but not unreasonable).  A study guide for the in-class final will be issued on Friday, May 18.
      6. Books are due to Mr. Hester by Friday, May 18 so that I can release holds for each student.  You will not need them to prepare for the written final as it will all come from your study guide.
